Chinese actress Chen Hong is celebrated for her iconic portrayal of Diao Chan, first in the 1994 adaptation of Romance of the Three Kingdoms and later in Lu Bu and Diao Chan. Known for her flawless beauty, she earned the title “Most Beautiful Diao Chan on Screen” among fans.

Graduating from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, Chen Hong entered the entertainment industry at age 17. Prior to her role as Diao Chan, she starred in numerous adaptations of Qiong Yao novels, including Shui Yun Jian, Ji Du Xi Yang Hong, and Yan Zao Chong Lou. Chinese media praised her stunning looks: “Chen Hong’s beauty takes one’s breath away, her pure face and sparkling eyes exude extraordinary charm. Just a glimpse of her youth leaves people astonished.”

Despite her rising career, Chen Hong’s personal life drew scrutiny. She married renowned director Chen Kaige (born 1952), but their relationship sparked rumors of her being a “homewrecker.”

“He never registered a marriage with her,” Chen Hong once clarified on television, defending her relationship and stating, “He never loved her, I know that clearly. Writing it otherwise only proves she was not worthy of a man’s love.”

Since marrying Chen Kaige in 1996, Chen Hong stepped back from acting, focusing on supporting her husband’s career and raising two sons. She has maintained her influence in the Chinese film industry through producing and working alongside her husband. Chen Kaige once remarked, “If I already have the most beautiful flower at home, why would I need another outside?”

Their son, actor Chen Feiwu, is following in their footsteps, continuing the family’s artistic legacy. Although Chen Hong rarely appears in public, her appearances still captivate audiences. At 57, she remains elegant, slim, and strikingly beautiful. Her successful family life and ongoing industry influence have earned admiration from peers and fans alike.
