On January 28, a netizen revealed that they had submitted a complaint through the National Petition System, requesting that Cha Eun-woo ’s reassignment within the military band be reviewed. The petitioner argued that the issue could negatively affect the military’s public credibility and troop morale.
According to the post, the petitioner stated that positions in the military band require a higher level of scrutiny than general military roles, particularly in terms of “public trust, representativeness, and troop morale.” The individual added that such positions demand stricter standards of suitability and risk management.

The petitioner further claimed that the scale and ripple effects of the controversy were significant, raising concerns over potential damage to perceptions of fairness and discipline within the military organization. They expressed concern that the situation could lead to a sense of relative deprivation among service members and weaken trust in the military’s integrity.
Earlier the same day, a video featuring Cha Eun-woo on the Ministry of National Defense–operated YouTube channel KFN Plus was set to private. Cha Eun-woo had appeared in four episodes as the new storyteller for the series “Stories of the Day in the Military,” beginning in late December.
Cha Eun-woo enlisted as an active-duty soldier in the South Korean Army in July last year and has been serving since then. The current controversy follows reports surrounding alleged tax issues amounting to 20 billion KRW, which have continued to draw public attention. As of now, there has been no official response regarding the petition or any potential reassignment.
