Appearing on the show The Blooming Journey 2 with several other major Mainland stars, Cecilia Cheung drew significant attention when she opened up about her parenting philosophy. She emphasized that she rarely raises her voice at her children and prefers a respectful, guidance-centered approach—one that many viewers, especially mothers, praised.
During a conversation among the cast members, actress Carina Lau asked whether Cecilia ever scolds or even hits her children. Cecilia responded without hesitation: “I rarely scold them, but I’m very straightforward. I always tell them: ‘You made your decision, so you must take responsibility for the consequences.’ When they make mistakes, I accept it. I believe you can’t grow if you never fail.”
According to her, an overly smooth life is not necessarily good for a child. She explained: “Sometimes the smoother my child’s path is, the more worried I get. If they come home saying, ‘Mom, I didn’t play well,’ or ‘I lost this match,’ I’m actually relieved. I think: ‘What if they excel at everything and always win? They’d never learn anything if life is always that easy.’ I think it’s better for their path to have a bit of struggle.”

The actress added that she fully supports her sons’ learning through trial and error.
In a previously shared video, Cecilia mentioned that she has been a mother for “more than 6,400 days” about 18 years. She reflected on how quickly time passes, saying that although motherhood moves fast, “every moment is filled with joy.” Watching her children constantly learn new things, she feels as though she is walking the path of growth all over again. She cherishes every moment of motherhood because children grow up very quickly.
Cecilia believes one of the hardest parts of parenting is connecting with a child’s inner world. Beyond material support, she says, the real challenge lies in understanding their hearts and growing alongside them.

Under her guidance, her children continue to thrive. Her eldest son Lucas, now 18, has been accepted into the University of Sydney, while her second son, Quintus, 15, is currently in high school. Both boys, she says, are thoughtful and caring toward her.
In a recent program, Cecilia spoke about how their roles have begun to “reverse” with her sons now reminding her to make healthier, better choices in daily life. She admits that as a mother, she sometimes needs to learn to let go and allow her children to make their own decisions.
Born in 1980, Cecilia Cheung remains regarded as one of Hong Kong’s iconic beauties of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Her acting career flourished through hit films such as King of Comedy, Fly Me to Polaris, The Lion Roars, and Lost in Time. She married actor Nicholas Tse and had two sons with him before their divorce in 2012. In 2018, she gave birth to her third son but has never revealed the father’s identity.
