Criticism over Byun Woo-seok continues due to his expression of gratitude toward fans for a Popularity vote amid security controversy
The Seoul International Drama Awards conducted Asian Star Awards vote from June 15th to July 14th. Among the actors, “Lovely Runner” actor Byun Woo-seok placed No.1 in the Korean Men’s Popularity Award category with 49.53% of the vote. In addition, his costar Kim Hye-yoon also topped the list of female stars with 51.07% of the vote, proving the syndrome-class popularity of “Lovely Runner”.
Byun Woo-seok then left a message expressing his gratitude to fans in an open chatroom he often uses to communicate with them. On the 15th, the actor said, “Thank you so much”. However, this comment has further caused public criticism over his recent excessive security controversy to intensify.
Earlier on the 12th, Byun Woo-seok arrived at Incheon International Airport to leave for his Hong Kong fanmeeting. However, controversy broke out as a video showing Byun Woo-seok’s bodyguard protecting the actor by pointing flashlights at airport passengers.
According to witnesses at the airport, Byun Woo-seok’s bodyguards even tried to control the airport by checking the tickets of passengers in the lounge. Later, a netizen even filed a complaint to the National Human Rights Commission of Korea regarding the excessive security issue. In the end, Byun Woo-seok’s agency Varo Entertainment issued an official apology on the 15th.
