Byun Woo-seok’s Side Ceases Work with Security Firm after Airport Controversy

Byun Woo-seok's agency has decided to no longer work with their old security firm after the excessive security controversy.

According to OSEN’s investigation on the afternoon of July 23, Byun Woo-seok’s agency has recently excluded security firm A from their work due to the recent excessive airport security controversy.

Previously, on the 12th, Byun Woo-seok faced criticism for the excessive actions of his security guards while departing Incheon International Airport for a fan meeting in Hong Kong. The guards restricted some exits, flashed lights at general passengers in the lounge, and even checked passports and tickets.

Complaints arose among passengers, and the issue surfaced on online communities, bringing the excessive security measures into the spotlight. While airport security can control gates to prevent safety incidents when celebrities use the airport, they do not have the right to arbitrarily check passengers’ IDs or tickets.

The security firm representative apologized for the flash usage in a call with OSEN but clarified that the decisions were not made independently and were coordinated with airport security. The representative explained that the area around the lounge was crowded with people without tickets trying to enter, and the measures were taken to manage the congestion, allowing only those with legitimate reasons to enter.

However, Incheon International Airport Corporation distanced itself from the actions, stating that the checks were not coordinated with airport security, further fueling the controversy.

The Incheon International Airport Corporation is considering filing charges against Byun Woo-seok’s security firm, and the police have initiated an investigation to determine if six security firm employees could be charged with obstruction of business and coercion.

Lee Hak-jae, CEO of Incheon International Airport Corporation, stated at a National Assembly committee meeting that such an incident was unprecedented in the airport’s history and acknowledged the responsibility for not detecting it. He mentioned plans to establish rules for private security firms’ behavior within the airport in collaboration with the police and to seek stricter penalties for violations.

Amidst this, Byun Woo-seok’s agency decided not to continue working with the controversial security firm. However, the agency told OSEN, “We are cautious about commenting on this issue at the moment. Byun Woo-seok does not have any overseas schedules for the time being, so we will discuss the matter further in the future.”
