BTS’s Jimin Sparks Controversy Over Music Quality Despite Streaming Records

The music quality of BTS’s Jimin’s latest single "Smeraldo Garden Marching Band”, is facing scathing criticism.

On June 28, BTS’s Jimin released the single “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band,” paving the way for his second solo album, “Muse,” which is set to be released in July. Competing on the same day as Lisa, the 2 members from global groups fiercely battled on music charts.

So far, Jimin’s “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” has created a buzz on iTunes, topping charts in over 100 countries and territories. On Spotify, the track set a record for the most streams in a single day for 2024, with over 6.2 million plays.

In this comeback, Jimin collaborated with rapper Loco, offering a lively sound with the vibrant tones of a large marching band combined with fresh Hip-hop elements. The festive melody of “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” was well-received by many fans, but not all listeners were convinced.

On X (Twitter), there have been several posts criticizing “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” for its poor production and disjointed melody. According to the author of these posts, pairing of Jimin’s vocals with Loco’s rap failed to create a positive synergy. Although intended to be a bright tune, the song was described as “forgettable” and “unmemorable”.

Numerous users expressed disappointment with the music quality and Jimin’s vocals, with the topic going viral, garnering over 7 million views and tens of thousands of likes. The song was criticized, with much of the blame directed at Jimin’s voice.

Previously, after the “encore disaster” during the promotion of “Like Crazy”, people have become more critical of Jimin’s singing abilities, and this time the male idol’s voice is facing scrutiny again.

On the other hand, Jimin’s full album, “Muse,” will be released on July 19. The album contains seven tracks prepared before his enlistment, including “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band” and “Closer Than This.”
