BTS takes over Billboard again amid the military service exemption debate

BTS is still living up to their “name value” despite the noisy “military service exemption” debate.

BTS continues to promote national prestige by making various achievements on the U.S. Billboard chart separately.

According to the latest chart released by Billboard on Sep 21st, BTS’s anthology album “Proof” ranked 90th on the main album chart “Billboard 200,” proving its “long-term power” with 14 consecutive weeks staying on the chart.

“Proof”’s title track “Yet To Come” is also in the spotlight as it re-entered the “World Digital Song Sales” chart at #5. The title of the song is included in the “BTS’ Yet To Come in Busan” concert, which will be held by BTS in October to prepare for the “2030 Busan World Expo,” and it seems that global fans are paying attention to the song again.

In addition, BTS has put several songs on the “Global 200” and “Global (outside the U.S.)” charts, which are based on digital streaming and sales in more than 200 countries/regions around the world.

“Dynamite,” “My Universe” and “Butter” were ranked 124th, 132nd and 196th in the “Global 200,” respectively. On the “Global (excluding the U.S.)” chart, “My Universe” ranked 83rd, “Dynamite” ranked 92nd, and “Butter” ranked 134th.

The solo songs released by the BTS members were also listed throughout the chart. “Left and Light” of member Jungkook and U.S. singer-songwriter Charlie Puth ranked 41st on the Billboard main single chart “Hot 100.” It has continued its popularity by charting on the chart for 12 consecutive weeks.

In addition, this song dominated the top of various charts, including 13th on “Adult Pop Airplay”, 14th on “Pop Airplay”, 30th on “Radio Song”, 32nd on “Digital Song Sales”, 33rd on “Global Excl. US”, 34th on “Canadian Hot 100” and 37th on “Global 200”.

Balming Tiger’s “SEXY NUKIM (feat. RM of BTS)” ranked 9th on the World Digital Song Sales chart. In addition, “Bad Decisions” (released on Aug 5th), in which members Jin, Jimin, V and Jungkook worked with U.S. producer Benny Blanco and rapper Snoop Dogg, ranked 27th on “Pop Airplay”, 108th on “Global Excl. US” and 117th on “Global 200”.

As such, BTS, which is achieving such brilliant results on overseas charts, has recently emerged as a “hot potato” in the domestic media. The main issue is the debate over the application of “Special Cases on Military Service”.

As the enlistment notice of Jin, BTS’ oldest member, is just three months away, the controversy over the revision of the Special Military Service Act is rekindling. If the law does not change, BTS members must enlist sequentially from December. The argument that there should be a special military service exemption for BTS for their contribution to national interest and that there can be no exceptions to military service obligations are sharply going against each other.
