BTS are facing mixed reactions following their first concert, where a noticeable reduction in choreography has sparked debate among fans.
According to behind-the-scenes insights, the shift was a deliberate creative decision led by Bang Si Hyuk, who reportedly suggested removing most of the choreography from the group’s stage entirely. During the preparation process, choreography for several songs was not finalized until late, leading to frustration among members who questioned the lack of clear direction. In response, the production approach was completely reset under Bang Si Hyuk’s guidance.
Existing choreography drafts were discarded, and certain tracks such as “Swim” and “Hooligan” were reworked into performances with minimal movement, so much so that it felt like there was almost no choreography at all. This unexpected direction led even the members to question whether it aligned with BTS’s established identity.

The creative reasoning behind the change centered on the group’s evolution. Bang Si Hyuk emphasized that BTS had reached a level where their presence alone could dominate the stage, even without complex choreography. He suggested that their signature high-intensity performances, while iconic, could sometimes overshadow the music itself.
The members reportedly spent nearly two weeks experimenting with both styles, comparing high-intensity choreography with the new minimal approach before gradually understanding and accepting the direction.

However, the change has not been universally welcomed. For many fans, BTS is synonymous with powerful, sharp, and perfectly synchronized choreography. The absence of such elements in the concert led to criticism, with some expressing disappointment over the lack of signature performance intensity.
- It feels like a parade. I can understand having a lot of dancers since there’s no choreography, but what are they even holding?
- The song is really exciting, but the performance was honestly a bit disappointing.
- It feels like an encore stage after winning a grand prize at an awards show… why did they remove the choreography?
- Even the Lotte World parade puts more effort into choreography than that…
As discussions continue, the group’s new direction highlights an ongoing tension between fan expectations and artistic evolution, raising questions about what defines a “BTS-style” performance in their next era.
