Minister of National Defense Shin Won-sik attended a meeting of the National Assembly’s Budget and Settlement Special Committee on November 7th and revealed that J-Hope was mentioned as the host of the International Military Cooking Competition and then canceled in response to a question from Representative Lee Yong-ho of the People’s Power Party.

The fourth edition of the International Military Cooking Competition, which selects the best cooks among the military personnel of Korea, the United States, and Singapore, was held in the morning on the same day at the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.

The military authorities had been considering the possibility of J-Hope appearing as the host of this competition and had been coordinating with his agency.

However, it was ultimately reported that Minister Shin Won-sik instructed to put it on hold, resulting in the cancellation.

Regarding this matter, Minister Shin Won-sik said, “Originally, a suggestion was made for a BTS member (J-Hope) to host the event. In my view, BTS diligently fulfilling their military service obligations like other servicemen is a better and natural example for the public.”

He added, “From now on, I have instructed not to assign any other tasks to soldiers who have entered the military after being celebrities.”

In response to Minister Shin Won-sik’s statement, Representative Lee Yong-ho said, “It’s a good decision. According to the principle that every young person in South Korea should serve in the military without exception, he went to the military, and from that perspective, it is inappropriate to use celebrities for military purposes.”

J-Hope enlisted in the 36th Division in Wonju, Gangwon Province, in April and received basic military training. He was then selected as an army instructor at the 36th Division’s recruit training center. BTS currently has three members, Jin, J-Hope, and Suga, fulfilling their military duties.
