On the evening of March 21st at 8 PM, BTS held their “BTS The Comeback Live: ARIRANG” at Gwanghwamun Square, one of Korea’s most symbolic landmarks. The event celebrated the release of their 5th full-length album ARIRANG and was broadcast live to over 190 countries via Netflix.
This marked their first full-group concert since “Yet to Come in BUSAN” in October 2022—approximately 3 years and 5 months ago—drawing explosive global attention. BTS delivered long-awaited performances of new tracks, including the title song “SWIM,” living up to fans’ expectations.

According to HYBE, around 104,000 people gathered at the venue. It was also the first time a single artist held a standalone concert at Gwanghwamun Square, prompting extensive preparations by the government and local authorities in anticipation of massive crowds.
On the day of the concert, strict security measures were implemented. A fenced system with 31 entry gates was set up, and attendees had to pass through metal detectors and inspections by police officers. Traffic control was enforced, and nearby subway stations—including Gwanghwamun, City Hall, and Gyeongbokgung—were temporarily closed or bypassed. Approximately 15,000 personnel, including police, firefighters, and safety staff, were deployed.

However, the scale of control sparked criticism from some, who argued that such measures infringed on citizens’ rights and questioned whether it was appropriate to mobilize such extensive public resources for a single artist’s event.
Perhaps aware of the controversy, the members expressed gratitude and humility during the concert. Jimin said toward the end, “Thank you to ARMY for filling Gwanghwamun, and also to everyone who made it possible for us to perform in such a special place.” He bowed his head in appreciation.

Suga added, “It was truly an honor to perform at Gwanghwamun. I’d also like to thank the Seoul city officials and the police for their hard work.”
Meanwhile, leader RM had taken the stage despite an ankle injury sustained during rehearsals, performing with a cast.

After the concert, RM shared a message on the fan platform Weverse, speaking on behalf of the group: “We sincerely thank the police, firefighters, government, and local officials who ensured a safe event despite the massive crowd.”
He continued, “We also deeply apologize and thank the citizens, nearby merchants, and workers who endured inconveniences such as traffic control and noise. We will never take your understanding for granted and will carry this gratitude in our hearts.”
RM further emphasized that the concert was not achieved by BTS alone, stating, “This stage was made possible by the dedication of those ensuring safety, the consideration of citizens, and the unwavering love of ARMY.”
