The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korea International Culture Exchange Promotion Agency, has announced the results of the 2022 Overseas Hallyu Survey, which regularly examines the current status and spread of Hallyu content around the world.

 2022 Overseas Hallyu Survey

The survey was conducted online from November 5th to December 8th last year on 8,500 people from 18 countries who have had Korean cultural content experiences about their Hallyu consumption, including dramas, entertainment, movies, music, animation, publications, games, fashion, beauty, and food.

The most loved Korean dramas? “Squid Game”!

Squid Game

Looking at the favorite Hallyu content by field, “Squid Game,” which was flooded with worldwide popularity last year, topped the list with 21.2%, more than 19% ahead of the second-place “Crash Landing on You” (2.2%) and third-place “Vincenzo” (1.9%).

Descendants of the Sun

Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin‘s “Crash Landing on You,” which ranked first in 2020, also ranked second last year, proving their huge popularity.

What about the most loved Korean movie? “Parasite” for 3 years in a row!

Due to the appearance of director Bong Joon-ho‘s “Parasite” in 2019, Ma Dong-seok‘s “Train to Busan” was pushed to second place again. Both movies have ranked first and second for the third consecutive year, respectively.

Train to Busan

In 2020, all the second, third, and fourth-place movies are related to zombies, and all five movies have dark backgrounds. Perhaps because it is the first year of the pandemic.

The King: Eternal Monarch

Lee Min-ho won the honor of winning first place for the fourth consecutive year. In 2020, he received the highest score with the drama “The King: Eternal Monarch”.
