Netflix’s record-breaking romance series Bridgerton is back with its highly anticipated fourth season and this time, the Cinderella of the story is played by a Korean actress. The spotlight falls on Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson), the family’s free-spirited second son, who falls head over heels for a mysterious woman he meets at a masquerade ball, sealing their encounter with a passionate kiss and a single glove left behind. Sound familiar? It’s a classic Cinderella tale only this time, with a modern and multicultural twist.
Yerin Ha makes her breakout as Sophie Baek, a housemaid of illegitimate noble birth who captures Benedict’s heart but hides her identity due to her lowly status. This marks the first time a Korean actress leads a romantic arc in the Bridgerton universe, bringing a fresh dynamic to the series.

Adapted from Julia Quinn’s novel An Offer from a Gentleman, Season 4 leans into its most traditional romantic plot yet transcending “contract romance,” “enemies to lovers,” and “friends to lovers” seen in previous seasons. However, Bridgerton stays true to its brand, injecting modern flair and lush, sensuous storytelling into every scene.
Unlike the fairytale ending where the prince finds the glass slipper’s perfect match and they live happily ever after, this Cinderella story doesn’t stop at the reunion. In Part 1 (episodes 1–4), Benedict tries and fails to locate the masked mystery woman, only to unknowingly grow closer to Sophie, who keeps her identity hidden out of fear. Her backstory as an illegitimate daughter and maid presents a steeper societal hurdle than any previous love story in the show. When Benedict proposes that she become his mistress instead of his wife, it ignites debate online, with fans labeling it “the worst love confession” in Bridgerton history.

Still, speculation lingers: could Sophie’s birthright be legally restored in Part 2? Her mother’s status is unclear, mentioned only through her stepmother’s dialogue. A pendant Sophie wears may hint at deeper truths yet to be uncovered. If her status is elevated, the couple’s path becomes smoother. If not, Bridgerton may be setting the stage for a bolder message love transcending all social boundaries.
Yerin Ha brings Sophie to life with intelligence, poise, and luminous presence. Her calm voice and expressive eyes portray depth and vulnerability, distinguishing her from past heroines like Daphne’s innocence (Season 1), Kate’s wild spirit (Season 2), or Penelope’s bold intellect (Season 3). Known in Korea as the granddaughter of legendary stage actress Son Sook, Yerin Ha may also see a rise in domestic popularity thanks to this global platform.

With its masterful blend of familiarity and surprise, Bridgerton continues to dazzle. Modern classical covers of pop songs, stunning masquerade ball sequences, and couture-level costume design remain hallmarks of the show’s aesthetic charm. As we await Part 2’s premiere on February 26, revisiting past seasons or the original books may just tide fans over because when reality weighs heavy, few things rival the escape of a good, steamy period romance.
