Former Prosecutor Who Defended Super Junior’s Kangin Now Represents BTS’s Suga

Suga appeared at the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul on August 23. He is accused of riding an electric scooter while intoxicated on the night of August 6, around 11:15 PM, near his home in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. When the police found Suga after he fell off the scooter, his blood alcohol concentration was 0.227%, indicating he was ‘drunk’. Suga is currently serving as a social service worker, with his discharge date set for next June.

The lawyer who accompanied Suga to the Yongsan Police Station on the 23rd is a former prosecutor from a well-known law firm, as confirmed by Newsis on the 24th.

This lawyer is known for specializing in criminal cases involving domestic entertainment companies. He has previously defended famous celebrities in drunk driving cases, including Kangin, who was charged with violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) in 2016.

Kangin was accused of hitting a street lamp in front of a convenience store in Sin-sa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at around 2 AM on May 24, 2016. He fled the scene in his car but turned himself in to the police about 11 hours later at 1 PM, causing significant controversy.

The prosecution initially fined Kangin 7 million won and issued a summary indictment. However, the court decided to proceed with a formal trial, which resulted in Kangin being fined 7 million won after he did not appeal the decision.

The lawyer representing Suga now has been working in a major law firm since leaving his position as a prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office in 2008, handling various criminal cases.

Earlier, on August 6, Suga was caught riding an electric scooter while drunk and fell on a street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan, Seoul, and was reported to the police the next day. At that time, his blood alcohol concentration was 0.227%, significantly above the license suspension level.

Under current law, a blood alcohol concentration of 0.2% or higher can result in imprisonment of 2 to 5 years or a fine of 10 to 20 million won.

Suga has been serving as a social service worker since September 2023 and is scheduled to be discharged in June 2025.
