In a candid interview, renowned TVB actor Bosco Wong explained his long-standing bachelorhood by saying it was a form of revenge against his mother.
“My mom always chased away my girlfriends. So now, I won’t get married—let her be annoyed!” he said with a mix of sarcasm and frustration.
The actor, known as the “ageless heartthrob” of Hong Kong, opened up about his heartbreaking first love during elementary school. As a sixth grader, he excitedly introduced his girlfriend to his family, only to be met with a cold reception. His mother reportedly scolded and rejected the girl, leading to the relationship’s eventual collapse.
The painful memory left a lasting scar. Bosco admitted he still doesn’t understand why his mother intervened so harshly in his personal life, and his quip in the interview seems to mask deeper emotional wounds.
Chinese media outlet 163.com shed light on his mother’s strict behavior, tracing it back to her own traumatic past. She divorced while pregnant and had to raise Bosco alone, working tirelessly and entrusting him to relatives. During his early struggles in the entertainment industry, his mother supported him financially, helping him survive until he found success. Despite occasional friction, Bosco has expressed deep love and gratitude toward his mother, once saying, “Mom, I’ll love you for a lifetime.”
Yet, her fears about love and marriage appear to have deeply influenced Bosco. He recalled how his grandmother used to berate his mother for “marrying the wrong man,” often reducing her to tears. As a result, his mother lost faith in love and was always afraid her son would repeat her mistakes.
Bosco eventually adopted the same mindset. In September 2024, he publicly declared himself anti-marriage and anti-parenthood, stating:
“Women who want children aren’t compatible with me.”
