In the latest episode of “Hyoyeon’s Level Up” on YouTube, BoA sat down with fellow GOT the Beat member Hyoyeon (Girls’ Generation) and reflected on their time promoting together.
The group, which includes BoA, Hyoyeon, Taeyeon, Red Velvet’s Seulgi and Wendy, and aespa’s Karina and Winter, was a bold attempt at showcasing female SM talent across generations.
However, BoA revealed her personal struggles during the project. “Honestly, I didn’t want to do GOT the Beat. I kept trying to avoid it. I even messaged them saying I couldn’t do it,” she confessed, adding that despite her efforts, she was still targeted by malicious comments. “People thought the group happened because of me. It wasn’t. And yet I got so much hate. I thought, ‘I did it and still get bashed.’”
BoA also admitted to feeling self-conscious during choreography practices. “I kept messing up. I was embarrassed. I’ve never done these types of blocking formations before,” she shared, describing how nervous she felt working alongside younger idols with intensive performance backgrounds.
