BLACKPINK’s Jennie’s Risqué Drama Now an Emmy Winner, Overcame All Controversies?

“The Idol”, an HBO series which BLACKPINK’s Jennie starred in, has secured a win in the prestigious Emmy Awards.

On September 9 (KST), the HBO series “The Idol” was announced as the winner for “Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming” at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.

This means that “The Idol”, starring music star Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, model and actress Lily-Rose Depp (daughter of Johnny Depp), and BLACKPINK member Jennie, is now officially an Emmy-winning production.

Previously, when “The Idol” received its choreography nomination, mixed reactions started to pour in, considering that choreography is one of the standout and controversial aspects of “The Idol” for being “overly sensual”

Particularly, Jennie’s performance scenes with male dancers and her provocative costumes in the film have been deemed “suggestive” and “risqué”, to the point many questioned why such a popular idol like Jennie would agree to participate in this series.

The skewed message of “The Idol”, especially regarding matters concerning women, also caused Jennie to fall victim to harsh criticism.

However, considering that “The Idol” is now an Emmy winner, it seems that the series has managed to overcome its controversies.

On the other hand, Jennie is set to make her solo comeback in October this year, and is set to work with the famous US record label Columbia Records for her upcoming solo single.
