BLACKPINK’s headlining set at Coachella 2023 fined $37,000 for going over Indio’s city curfew

BLACKPINK’s headlining set at Coachella 2023 resulted in a fine of $37,000 for going over the city’s curfew 22 minutes.

According to a city representative, the 2023 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was fined a total of $117,000 for violating the city’s curfew. According to the initial plan, Coachella had to wrap up at midnight sharp, as it’s the curfew in the city of Indio. Nonetheless, Frank Ocean’s headlining set lasted longer than expected by 25 minutes. The singer also had to cut some parts of his performances.

This is part of the agreement between the city of Indio and Goldenvoice that took effect in 2013. The agreement outlines that going five minutes past curfew will result in a daily fine of $20,000. Every minute after that point costs $1,000 per minute. The fines will go to Indio’s General Fund, which, in turn, will be used for operation costs, public works, and the police and fire departments.

BLACKPINK’s headlining set was required to finish at sharply 1 in the morning. However, it also went over the curfew for 22 minutes, resulting in a fine of $37,000. In a similar fashion, the night with Bad Bunny as a headliner also extended beyond the curfew by 25 minutes.

Moreover, BLACKPINK’s headlining set at Coachella 2023 was pushed back 30 minutes due to a fainted audience member, which required an immediate response from medical personnel. In addition, BLACKPINK also opened with a sophisticated drone-powered light show on the night sky. Hence, it partly explains why the YG girl group’s headlining set could not finish in time.
