The Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium that can accommodate about 80,000 spectators. In the past, famous pop stars such as One Direction, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Metallica, and Linkin Park have performed at this stadium. Among K-pop stars, Super Junior performed at the closing ceremony of the ‘18th Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games’, and an SM Town Concert was held here in 2012.

Initially, the stadium was scheduled to take a break ahead of the hosting of the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which opens in May 2023. Last month, when BLACKPINK’s concert venue was discussed, Indonesia’s Minister of Sports and Youth said that it would be difficult to hold a concert at the Gelora Bung Karno main stadium because the stadium needed refurbishment.

Although the reason why the Indonesian government changed their mind and gave the permission to hold the event was not revealed exactly, it can be assumed that it reflected the high local interest in BLACKPINK. Indonesia is a country where not only K-pop, but also the consumption power and fandom of Hallyu contents are strong.
