The slippery slope of everyday lawyer Park Chang Ho into a merciless avenger.
With a brief introduction and crucial details fleshed out in episode 1, Park Chang Ho emerges as a handsome and wordy lawyer who, paradoxically, has little chance of success in his job. Hence, he earns himself the title “Big Mouth”, implying someone who cannot live up to talk.
Park Chang Ho’s life perhaps might be fading through him quietly, that is if he never found himself entangled with the powerful elites and got himself in prison as their scapegoats. Through many pushes and pulls, Chang Ho goes from a good-natured, afraid-of-his-wife type of guy to an intimidating and merciless person seeking vengeance of those who push him to the edges.
The “butterfly effect” can perfectly sum up Park Chang Ho’s situation. Similar to how a small and insignificant event from the past can have a tremendous impact on the future, the moment Park Chang Ho decides to meet with the mayor and finds himself involved in the business of mysterious figures in the NR Forum, his fate changes its course ever since.
If Park Chang Ho had not met the mayor, he would not have had a reckless encounter with other members of the NR Forum, leading to him being pinned on with their crime and taking their sentences. However, if he also had not gone in, he would not have known that he was mistaken as “Big Mouse”, a notorious genius conman. Unbothered to clear his name, Chang Ho accepts his fate and starts transforming into the “villain” with provocative ideas that would not have crossed his mind before.
It is only with this transformation that Park Chang Ho can fully come to realize how impactful his words and powerful his fits are. Once he is pushed to his limits, the character realizes how limitless he can be.
It is predicted that Park Chang Ho cannot be himself once he gets back to his normal life. He will begin to fall on a slippery slope where the character can only be more merciless and villainous and eventually reach the peak of an anti-hero. This is the final outcome of the planned “incident” by people of the NR Forum, of the “butterfly effect”, that pushes Park Chang Ho off his course.
In 2017, Lee Jong Suk performed spectacularly as the villain in the action thriller movie “V.I.P”, giving him more experience in transforming from a pure hero in “Big Mouth” to an anti-hero with ease. With the story finishing charting how the hero Park Chang Ho comes to walk down this path, what is left is how his anti-hero version will carry out the vengeance and what exciting twists will be revealed in the future.
What is certain is that the series will have to uncover who “Big Mouse” really is and perhaps the screenwriter will pull a twist to make “Big Mouth” Park Chang Ho the real “Big Mouse”?
