“Big Mouth” actress Hong Ji-hee, “I was very lucky. It was such a grateful and precious experience”
Actress Hong Ji-hee presented a passionate performance until her character faced a death ending in “Big Mouth”.
In the September 2nd broadcast of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama “Big Mouth” (scripted by Kim Ha-ram/ directed by Oh Chung-hwan/ produced by AStory, Studio Dragon, and A-Man Project), Jang Hye-jin (Hong Ji-hee) helped Ko Mi-ho (Im Yoon-ah) find the cause of the ‘ghost disease’ that only happened to exemplary prisoners in Gucheon Prison and Professor Seo’s thesis, providing clues to solve the case. This twist increased the viewers’ immersion in the drama. At the same time, the death ending of Jang Hye-jin due to the endless obsession of her husband Han Jae-ho (Lee Yoo-joon), who abused her with violence, shocked many people.
Hong Ji-hee expressed diverse aspects of Jang Hye-jin, who produced endless plot twists while holding all the evidence, including the black box and Professor Seo Jae-yong (Park Hoon)’s thesis in the murder case, which serves as the center of the drama.
Hong Ji-hee, who increased the tension of the story by changing between different emotional lines of her character according to the situation and other characters, from Jang Hye-jin’s bold courage to her fear and anxiety of her husband, showed her shining presence until the end. We conducted an interview with Hong Ji-hee, who drew attention with her strong impact as a prominent character who created key twists for the drama, to hear stories about “Big Mouth” and Jang Hye-jin.

Q. Following “Hometown Cha Cha Cha” Yoo Cho-hee, “Big Mouth” Jang Hye-jin also aroused keen interest from the viewers. I wonder how you feel about appearing in this drama.
Hong Ji-hee: “Thank you to everyone who has shown huge support for the drama. I think I was very lucky. I received more attention and love than expected. To me, it was such a grateful and precious experience.”
Q. You played an active role in “Big Mouth” as a prominent character who created many plot twists. What did you pay attention to while portraying Jang Hye-jin.
Hong Ji-hee: “Jang Hye-jin kept important evidence, but she was such an unlucky person because her situation was too hard for her to actively solve the case. I thought about portraying the process of how she gradually changed and eventually took the courage to try moving in the right way. She’s a soft and passive character, but she owns the greatest courage that such a person can have. I wanted to show such details.”
Q. You reunited with actors Oh Eui-sik and Yang Kyung-won, whom you worked with in musicals and plays before, through “Big Mouth”. I’m curious about your chemistry with them in the drama this time.
Hong Ji-hee: “Actor Oh Eui-sik and Yang Kyung-won are my seniors, friends, and family-like people whom I can call without hesitation whenever I encounter any difficulties. When we met on the filming set, actor Yang Kyung-won told me, ‘Ji-hee ah! I feel so touched that we’re here together!’. There were times when the filming of my scenes overlapped with the scenes of actors Oh Eui-sik and Park Hoon, and they bought me delicious food every time. They encouraged me, praising me that I worked hard. They gave me lots of strength.”
Q. How was your teamwork with Lee Jong-seok and Im Yoon-ah?
Hong Ji-hee: “It was my first time working with Lee Jong-seok and Im Yoon-ah and both of them were very warm and friendly. From their professional appearance during the filming to their casual and considerate side when we chatted during breaks, I could feel their true faces as famous actors who are so well-loved by the public.”
Q. What’s your most memorable scene in “Big Mouth”?
Hong Ji-hee: “It was the scene where Jang Hye-jin, who joined hands with Park Chang-ho (Lee Jong-seok) and Ko Mi-ho, heard Gong Ji-hoon (Yang Kyung-won) reveal the true criminal who murdered Professor Seo Jae-yong and gave him a big punch. It was a satisfying scene!”

Hong Ji-hee: “I didn’t feel any lonely thanks to you all who sympathized with Jang Hye-jin and gave me huge support, Thank you so much. I will work harder in my place and come back with another good work. I hope everyone enjoys this autumn season!”
