“Best Male Lead” Among 2024 K-dramas, Even Praised by Foreign Media

Many viewers believe that the role of this actor is the “best male lead” on Korean television for the first half of 2024.

“Uncle Samsik” is an original series on Disney+, currently nearing its final episodes. While not often discussed on SNS, the series has received high praise and significant attention in Korea and many Asian and Western countries.

From the start, even before the first episodes aired, “Uncle Samsik” caused a sensation in Korea due to its star-studded cast known for their exceptional acting skills. The mere presence of Song Kang-ho gave viewers absolute confidence in the quality of the series, as “Uncle Samsik” marks the first time Korea’s “national treasure actor” has agreed to star in a television drama.

After episodes 8 and 9 were released on May 29, “Uncle Samsik” generated explosive reactions, drawing enormous attention from global audiences. Song Kang-ho’s performance left viewers in awe, with many agreeing that he is currently the best male lead in 2024 K-dramas. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that since the beginning of the year, no other male star on Korean television has surpassed Song Kang-ho in terms of acting prowess.

Not only viewers, but media outlets worldwide have also focused on Song Kang-ho’s outstanding performance.

The Los Angeles Times noted, “Song Kang-ho’s acting, along with the storyline and all the characters, is incredibly compelling“, while Forbes highlighted, “Song Kang-ho brings yet another unforgettable story. He has created a truly unique character.”

Dorkaholics also emphasized Song Kang-ho’s “powerful presence” that “conveys deep emotions with just a look”, while United Daily News wrote, “’Uncle Samsik’ has completely captivated viewers, making it impossible to look away.”

Set in Korea during the 1950s and 60s, “Uncle Samsik” tells the story of the ambitions and brotherhood of Samsik and Kim San, who survived through a tumultuous period in Korean history.
