BBC Insults BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids & aespa? Under Fire by K-pop Fans

Fans of BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids & aespa are fuming at an insulting remark made by BBC News in a recent article.

Recently, BBC News published an article titled, “You’ve probably never heard of the biggest band at Glastonbury” to introduce K-pop boy group SEVENTEEN, as the group is set to perform at the upcoming Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

However, instead of focusing solely on SEVENTEEN, BBC News mentioned the names of BTS, BLACKPINK, Stray Kids & aespa in an insulting tone and even demeaned the groups’ achievements.

In particular, BBC wrote, “Even though bands like BTS, Blackpink, Stray Kids and Aespa have broken out, their biggest hits have tended to come in collaboration with Western artists like Selena Gomez, Lady Gaga or Coldplay.”

With this article, BBC has sparked outrage among the fandoms of the mentioned groups by suggesting that these groups’ biggest hits come from collaborations with Western artists.

In reality, however, the most successful songs of these groups are not collaborations, and in the case of aespa, the group has not had any collaborations with Western artists, only features.

Additionally, BBC has shown a lack of professionalism by misspelling aespa’s name (which shouldn’t be capitalized”, something that should not happen for such a major news outlet.

As a result, fans of the aforementioned group are heavily criticizing BBC for such a demeaning article, and posts about this has surpassed over 7 million views on SNS platform X (formerly Twitter).
