On August 4, a TikToker surnamed Liu triggered widespread outrage after livestreaming from Jinbaoshan Cemetery, focusing his camera directly on the gravestone of late actress Barbie Hsu. The livestream included commentary questioning whether DJ Koo — Hsu’s grieving husband — had truly visited the site regularly, as many reports had suggested.
Liu also panned over memorial areas for other celebrities, including legendary singer Teresa Teng, but it was his prolonged focus on Barbie Hsu’s grave that incensed viewers, who accused him of exploiting the deceased for clout and views.
Links to Zhang Lan Stir Further Controversy
Within minutes, outraged fans and netizens flooded Liu’s TikTok livestream with criticism. Many reported his account for violating ethical guidelines and disrespecting the deceased. Comments such as “How low can you go for content?” and “Leave the dead alone” dominated online forums.

Internet sleuths soon dug into Liu’s past, uncovering previous livestream collaborations with Zhang Lan, Barbie Hsu’s former mother-in-law. Liu had also shared content on TikTok suggesting that negative rumors about Barbie Hsu originated from her younger sister, Dee Hsu.
In a video posted weeks earlier, Liu publicly thanked Zhang Lan after she reshared one of his videos. “If you come to Taiwan, I’ll take you out for a good meal,” he said during a broadcast — remarks that further inflamed suspicion of a coordinated media smear.

Enraged netizens began targeting Zhang Lan on Weibo, posting questions like: “Your close friend livestreamed for over an hour at the child’s mother’s grave. What do you think about this?” Despite some defending Liu by claiming he may have only visited the cemetery out of curiosity, the overwhelming public sentiment condemned his actions as deeply disrespectful.
Mourning Interrupted
Barbie Hsu passed away in February 2025 and was buried at Jinbaoshan Cemetery. For the past six months, her loved ones have kept a low profile as they grieve privately. Recent media reports had praised DJ Koo for his regular and rain-or-shine visits to her grave, portraying him as a devoted husband still mourning her loss.

Liu’s livestream, seen by many as an insensitive intrusion into that grieving process, has sparked renewed calls for ethical boundaries in content creation — especially when it comes to memorials and the recently deceased.
As of now, Liu’s TikTok account remains under scrutiny, and neither Zhang Lan nor Dee Hsu have issued official statements on the matter.
