Chinese entertainment circles are once again buzzing after new revelations surfaced about the rumored breakup between Bai Lu and Zhang Linghe, one of C-drama’s most talked-about “reel-to-real” couples. Although the two stars never officially confirmed their relationship, their romance was widely considered an open secret within the industry.
According to Sohu, popular entertainment blogger Liu Dachui revealed during a livestream on January 19 that Bai Lu and Zhang Linghe had quietly broken up as early as August 2024—and not on good terms. The blogger emphasized that there is virtually no chance of reconciliation, claiming the pair have completely cut off contact and now avoid each other altogether. “Don’t expect them to get back together. There were too many conflicts, and reconciliation is impossible,” Liu Dachui stated.
Bai Lu and Zhang Linghe reportedly developed feelings for each other after co-starring in the drama Story of Kunning Palace. During filming, they were frequently spotted displaying affectionate behavior beyond that of ordinary colleagues, from intimate behind-the-scenes interactions to using matching items. Despite mounting evidence and intense online speculation, both actors chose to remain silent, though fans largely accepted them as a real-life couple.
The relationship caused a stir at the time, as Bai Lu was one of the most sought-after post-90s actresses in C-entertainment, while Zhang Linghe was a rapidly rising male star. Despite a three-year age gap, the two were praised for their visual compatibility and on-screen chemistry.
However, by the end of 2023, cracks began to show. At the iQIYI Scream Night event, their noticeably distant interactions sparked rumors of a fallout. Throughout 2024, news linking the two became increasingly scarce, further fueling breakup speculation.
Insiders now claim that the split was heavily influenced by Yu Zheng, the powerful screenwriter and producer who manages Bai Lu. Reportedly, Yu Zheng strongly opposed the relationship, fearing it would negatively impact Bai Lu’s career. According to him, once a romance between two popular actors becomes public, it limits future promotional strategies—especially the ability to create on-screen “CP buzz” with other co-stars, which can directly affect a project’s media exposure and commercial performance.
Under pressure from her influential manager, Bai Lu was allegedly forced to prioritize her career and end the relationship, despite lingering feelings. The breakup is said to have left both parties deeply hurt, turning what was once a sweet romance into a bitter and silent separation.
