Chinese actress Bai Lu is once again at the center of industry discussion as her contract with producer Yu Zheng and his company, Huanyu Entertainment, is reportedly set to expire in June 2026.
Having worked together for more than a decade, Bai Lu was personally recruited by Yu Zheng in 2015 and has since become one of the company’s biggest stars. However, recent developments have sparked speculation that the actress may be preparing to move on.
Rumors gained momentum after fans noticed subtle changes in the pair’s interactions on Weibo. While promoting Bai Lu’s upcoming drama Mo Li, Yu Zheng shared a promotional post, and the actress responded by thanking him with the phrase “Teacher Yu.” The wording drew attention because Bai Lu had previously referred to him as her “boss” or “benefactor,” leading some netizens to interpret the change as a sign of growing distance.
Industry insiders have also pointed out that while Yu Zheng recently mentioned several artists who would be renewing their contracts, he did not publicly reference Bai Lu, further fueling speculation about her future with the company.
Questions surrounding their professional relationship intensified during Bai Lu’s recent controversy related to Keep Running. Some fans criticized Yu Zheng for remaining largely silent, arguing that his response differed from the outspoken support he has typically shown artists under his management. Although he later explained that responding would only generate more attention for malicious rumors, many fans remained unconvinced.
Additional speculation emerged following changes to Bai Lu’s business operations. Reports indicate that two companies previously linked to the actress have been dissolved, while her personal company, Lu Yan Cultural Media Studio (Qingdao), remains active. Founded in 2021 and wholly owned by Bai Lu, the studio is authorized to handle activities ranging from artist management and television production to film distribution.
In China’s entertainment industry, maintaining a personal studio while restructuring or closing other affiliated companies is often viewed as a sign that an artist is preparing for greater independence.
Meanwhile, reports have circulated claiming that Bai Lu has replaced her existing management and publicity teams and will begin working with a new team from June 2026 onward. If true, the move could allow her to oversee acting projects, endorsement deals, and publicity strategies through her own studio rather than relying on Huanyu Entertainment’s management system.
The speculation is particularly notable given Bai Lu’s past comments about Yu Zheng. In a 2023 interview, she said, “Without Yu Zheng, there would be no Bai Lu today,” describing him as an important mentor in her career. More recently, however, the actress has spoken about wanting more choices and greater autonomy in shaping her future.
While neither Bai Lu nor Huanyu Entertainment has commented on the rumors, her reported contract expiration this month has made the actress’s next move one of the most closely watched topics in Chinese entertainment.
