Biography
Huang Renjun, known professionally as Renjun, is a Chinese singer, dancer, and performer based in South Korea. He is a member of the South Korean boy band NCT and its sub-units NCT Dream and NCT U, managed by SM Entertainment. Renjun made his official debut in August 2016 as part of the fixed NCT sub-unit NCT Dream and has since become known for his vocal ability, expressive performance, and artistic presence.
Early Life and Education
Huang Renjun was born on March 23, 2000, in Jilin, China. He grew up speaking both Mandarin and Korean, reflecting his multicultural background. Renjun’s interest in music and performance developed at a young age, and he pursued artistic training in ballet and contemporary dance before entering the professional music industry. He later attended and graduated from the Beijing Contemporary Music School alongside fellow NCT Dream member Chenle, where he further developed his musical skills and performance technique.
Career
Pre-Debut and SM Audition (2015)
Renjun joined SM Entertainment after successfully passing the SM Global Audition in Shenyang in 2015, beginning his formal training under the company’s artist development system.
Debut with NCT Dream (2016–present)
On August 21, 2016, Renjun was announced as a member of the newly formed sub-unit NCT Dream. He officially debuted with the group on August 25, 2016 with their first digital single, Chewing Gum, marking his entry into the K-pop industry. As a member of NCT Dream, Renjun serves as main vocalist and lead dancer, contributing to the group’s youthful image, diverse discography, and dynamic stage performances.
NCT U and Other Group Activities
In addition to his work with NCT Dream, Renjun debuted with the rotational sub-unit NCT U on October 12, 2020, participating in the group’s NCT 2020 Resonance project. Through these activities, he has contributed to wider NCT promotions and collaborative releases.
Hiatus and Return (2024)
In April 2024, SM Entertainment announced that Renjun would temporarily suspend activities due to health concerns and symptoms of anxiety, prioritizing treatment and recovery. He later resumed group activities after several months, returning to participate in NCT Dream’s projects and schedule upon medical clearance.

From a very young age, Renjun dreamed of becoming a singer. He was a big fan of EXO, which inspired him to want to become a K-pop idol.
