Biography

Kim Jung-woo, known mononymously as Jungwoo, is a South Korean singer, dancer, and performer. He is a member of the South Korean boy band NCT and its sub-units NCT U, NCT 127, and NCT DoJaeJung, under SM Entertainment. Jungwoo is recognized for his smooth vocals, strong dance skills, and charismatic stage presence.

Early Life and Education

Kim Jung-woo was born on February 19, 1998, in Sanbon-dong, Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, and was raised in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province. He attended Gimpo Gochang Middle School and later Gimpo Jeil Technical High School, where he studied in the Department of Computer Applied Machinery.

Jungwoo developed an early interest in performance, particularly in singing and dance, which led him to audition for SM Entertainment’s trainee program.

Career

Pre-Debut and SM Rookies (2014–2017)

Jungwoo joined SM Entertainment in 2014 after successfully passing the company’s auditions. He trained for several years and was introduced as a member of SM Rookies on April 18, 2017, gaining early public exposure through label activities and collaborative content.

Debut with NCT (2018–Present)

In January 2018, Jungwoo was announced as a new member of NCT, and he officially debuted on February 19, 2018, with the sub-unit NCT U on the track “Boss” from NCT 2018 Empathy. Later that year, he joined the Seoul-based unit NCT 127 for their first studio album Regular-Irregular as lead vocalist and lead dancer.

Jungwoo’s versatility as a performer has been showcased across multiple NCT projects and genres, including vocal-driven and dance-centric songs. In April 2023, he debuted as part of the vocal trio NCT DoJaeJung alongside Doyoung and Jaehyun with the R&B-focused EP Perfume.

Solo Work

Beyond group activities, Jungwoo made his solo debut on November 28, 2025 with the digital single Sugar, highlighting his capabilities as a standalone artist in addition to his group roles.

Personal Life and Military Service

In late 2025, it was announced that Jungwoo would enlist for mandatory military service on December 8, 2025. He is scheduled to serve as part of the South Korean Army’s band unit, a period during which his promotional activities with NCT will be paused.

Public Image and Endorsements

Jungwoo is known for his warm vocals, poised dance style, and approachable personality. In September 2023, he was appointed as the first male ambassador in South Korea for Italian luxury fashion house Tod’s.
