Biography

Kim Ji-won, known professionally as Liz, is a South Korean singer, songwriter, and performer. She is best known as a main vocalist of the K-pop girl group IVE, formed by Starship Entertainment. Since her debut, Liz has become recognized for her distinctive vocal tone, stage presence, and artistic versatility both in group activities and solo pursuits.

Early Life and Education

Liz was born on November 21, 2004, in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City, Jeju Province, South Korea. She grew up in Jeju with her family, including a younger brother. From a young age, Liz showed interest in music and performance, participating in local activities before pursuing a professional entertainment career.

Before training as an idol, she appeared in the music video for Girls’ Generation member Taeyeon’s winter single This Christmas (2017), marking her earliest exposure to the entertainment industry. She later passed Starship Entertainment’s Pepsi Summer Open Audition in 2019 and entered the company as a trainee, training for approximately two years before debut.

Career

Debut with IVE (2021–present)

Liz was revealed as the fourth member of Starship Entertainment’s new girl group IVE on November 5, 2021. The group debuted on December 1, 2021, with the single album Eleven, which quickly topped charts and established IVE as a significant new act in K-pop.

As main vocalist, Liz contributes rich, expressive vocals to the group’s repertoire. IVE’s subsequent releases, including Love Dive, After Like, and the studio album I’ve Ive (2023), have achieved substantial commercial success and critical acclaim both domestically and internationally, helping establish the group as one of the leading K-pop acts of their generation.

Solo and Collaborative Activities

Outside of group albums, Liz has participated in collaborative projects. In 2023, she was featured on the digital single “Nobody”, a special collaboration involving artists from IVE, aespa, and (G)I-DLE, released to support South Korea’s bid for the 2030 World Expo. She has also contributed to original soundtracks, releasing songs for drama OSTs such as Love Your Enemy OST Part.7: Summer (2024) and Heavenly Ever After OST Part.5: Heavy Love (2025).

Liz and fellow IVE member Gaeul were also selected as special MCs on MBC’s Show! Music Core in 2025, demonstrating her growing role in broadcast entertainment.
