10 must-know Korean actors according to Argentine newspaper: K-Drama’s rising popularity in Latin America
Argentina’s famous daily newspaper garnered attention by shining a spotlight on ten popular Korean actors.
The article, titled “Stars Beyond Hollywood: 10 Korean Actors You Must Know,” provided detailed introductions to each of the ten actors who have been making waves in the world of K-dramas.
The newspaper’s selection of these Top 10 actors was based on their current popularity and past works, including those that can be seen on Netflix in Argentina.
The article credits the global success of “Squid Game” as a driving force behind the increased recognition of Korean actors and their works in Latin America.
The ten actors featured in the article include Kim Woo Bin, Gong Yoo, Lee Min Ho, Bae Doona, Son Ye Jin, Lee Sung Kyung, Park Seo Joon, Lee Jung Jae, Song Hye Kyo, and Park Eun Bin.
The article cited a chart from a Flixpatrol consulting firm last week, explained that “The Glory,” starring Song Hye Kyo, ranked No. 1 worldwide on Netflix, and “Crash Course in Romance” ranked No. 9, adding that Korea is the only country other than the United States that has two series on Netflix’s TOP 10 shows.
The newspaper wrote down the ages of the 10 selected actors and their representative works, along with explanations of their upcoming works.
Kim Woo Bin will star in “Black Knight” later this year, while Gong Yoo can be seen in “Trunk”, a drama with a similar genre to “Coffee Prince”.
Lee Min Ho’s “Boys Over Flowers” and “The Heirs” can be seen on local Netflix. He is currently filming his first romantic science fiction drama, “Ask the Stars”. Meanwhile, Bae Doona is currently filming “Rebel Moon”, which is directed by Jack Snyder and set to be released on Netflix at the end of the year.
Son Ye Jin, who recently got married and had her first child, starred in “Crash Landing on You” and can also be seen in dramas like “Something in the Rain” and “Thirty-Nine”, available to stream on local Netflix.
Lee Sung Kyung is filming “Dr. Romantic Season 3,” which introduced the Hollywood season system for the first time in Korea.
Park Seo Joon, who challenged the Hollywood Marvel movie in the U.S., will appear on Netflix in the second half of the year for “Gyeongseong Creature.” Lee Jung Jae, who won the Emmy Award for “Squid Game,” will star in the Star Wars series “The Acolyte” scheduled to air on Disney+.
Song Hye Kyo, the main character of “The Glory,” is expected to star in the thriller “The Price of Confession” with Han So Hee, while Park Eun Bin, who gained sensational popularity thanks to “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, is also scheduled to film “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” season 2 and “Diva of the Deserted Island.”
