Arden Cho explained that her comment was purely a personal expression of comfort stemming from their private acquaintance, stressing that it was never intended to defend or justify his alleged actions. She stated, “The comment was simply meant as a message of encouragement based on personal familiarity, and there was no intention to condone or defend any wrongdoing.”

She went on to apologize, adding, “I regret that my private feelings were interpreted publicly in a way that caused misunderstanding. I promise to be more cautious moving forward.”

Previously, the Seoul Regional Tax Office announced that following a tax audit of Cha Eun Woo, it had issued a notice demanding more than 20 billion won in additional income tax. The National Tax Service reportedly determined that Cha Eun Woo and his mother had unfairly lowered their tax rate through a shell corporation. In response, his agency Fantagio stated that the matter has not been finalized and that they will provide clarification through lawful procedures.

Cha Eun Woo also personally apologized via social media, writing, “I sincerely bow my head in apology to everyone for the concern and disappointment caused by the recent issues related to me.”

The controversy intensified after Arden Cho left a comment on Cha Eun Woo’s apology post on January 26th, saying, “Always supporting you, dongsaeng, hwaiting!” The comment sparked immediate backlash from netizens, who accused her of publicly defending him amid the allegations.

With her latest statement, Arden Cho has drawn a clear line between personal encouragement and public endorsement, seeking to put an end to the misunderstanding while acknowledging the need for greater caution as a public figure.
