AOA’s 2014 single Miniskirt is making a surprising return to music charts, nearly 11 years after its release thanks to the wildly popular “My hips won’t stop” meme currently taking over social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

According to Melon Chart data on October 21, the song has re-entered the charts at #110, nearing a spot in the main Top 100. The song’s unexpected resurgence stems from a viral meme that features the phrase “My hips won’t stop, what should I do?” paired with exaggerated AI-edited clips and nostalgic flash-game-style visuals.

The trend was first sparked by influencer “Pong-Gwi,” who released a quirky short video combining chaotic editing with the instrumental version of Miniskirt as background music. The mix of absurd humor and catchy retro aesthetics especially relatable for those born in the ’90s resonated with a massive audience.

Soon, influencers and K-pop idols joined the trend, mimicking the now-iconic “hip dance” that features pelvic movements in sync with the song. Notably, NMIXX members Sullyoon and Kyujin posted their own versions, helping the meme spread even further across fandoms.

In an interview with a digital magazine, Pong-Gwi revealed why they chose Miniskirt as the meme’s soundtrack, saying, “I thought it matched the mood perfectly like, it was just so frustrating it worked.”

The meme’s momentum continues to drive a wave of nostalgia and humor, proving once again how powerful online trends can breathe new life into old hits.
