anaru rairai swimsuit performance

A Japanese idol’s bold stage outfit at a snow festival in Hokkaido has gone viral, triggering intense online debate.

According to Ettoday, the girl group Planck Stars was invited to perform at an art event held in Hokkaido. During their performance of the song “Ufoufo,” the members removed their winter coats on stage, revealing summer outfits underneath, including shorts and short-sleeved tops.

Notably, member Anaru Rairai appeared in a swimsuit, singing and dancing energetically despite the freezing temperatures.

A clip of Anaru Rairai performing under falling snow quickly circulated on forums and social media platforms, drawing widespread attention.

The performance divided public opinion. Online users criticized the outfit choice, noting that the festival typically attracts families and questioning whether the styling was appropriate for the setting. Others speculated that the group may have staged the performance as a form of attention-grabbing marketing. Concerns were also raised about the members’ health, with some warning of the risk of frostbite.

On February 10, Planck Stars’ management agency released an official statement clarifying the situation.

The company stated that the members themselves firmly chose to perform in swimsuits, T-shirts, and shorts. Management emphasized that the decision was not imposed by the agency.

The statement explained that in professional activities, the company always prioritizes the members’ safety and health while considering audience sentiment.

According to the manager, the swimsuit stage was intended as a “surprise gift” for fans. The group did not inform the event organizers beforehand about their plan to remove their coats during the performance.

The agency also called on the public not to attack the event organizers or the artists. They issued an apology for causing negative feelings among viewers and promised that in the future, performers would be required to wear sufficiently warm clothing when appearing in cold-weather conditions.

However, even after posting the apology, the group continued sharing photos from the controversial stage, leading some netizens to question the sincerity of the statement.

Formed in 2018, Planck Stars currently consists of 7 members: Anaru Rairai, Candy Vivid Paradise, Nagisa Juri, Iori, Raichi, Hanyu Yuka, and Okaeri.

The group is known for its rebellious and free-spirited image, blending rock and electronic dance music in their releases.
