Ahn Hyo-seop, Kim Se-jeong, Kim Min-kyu, Seol In-ah found their lifetime roles, “Business Proposal” is even funnier than variety shows

The sweet and pleasant “Business Proposal” has really captured the public’s attention, making every laugh with every episode.

A Business Proposal

“The drama is even funnier than variety shows and sweeter than any romantic series.” That’s the viewers’ reactions to SBS Monday-Tuesday drama “Business Proposal“, showing how faithful this romantic comedy is to its essence. The romantic, affectionate moments appear exactly as expected, and comic situations are also densely developed, exploding in every episode.

Kang Tae-moo (Ahn Hyo-seop) and Shin Ha-ri (Kim Se-jung) have entered into an office dating relationship in earnest without their colleagues noticing. The audiences all laugh at the situation where the couple overcomes the crisis of being discovered by Ha-ri’s teammates. In the process, it turns out that Yeo Eui-ju (Kim Hyun-sook) and Gye-bin (Im Ki-hong), who always quarrel in the company, are dating.

Meanwhile, despite the fast-paced relationship between Cha Sung-hoon (Kim Min-kyu) and Jin Young-seo (Seol In-ah), a comedy situation continues as Cho Yoo-jung (Seo Hye-won) unilaterally likes Cha Sung-hoon and confesses her love but is repeatedly rejected. Jin Young-seo‘s advice to Cho Yoo-jung, who does not know that the man she likes is actually Cha Sung-hoon, creates absurd situations and makes the audience laugh.

Although the story of “Business Proposal” is nothing new, every episode satisfies viewers’ expectations of a romantic comedy. It is filled with heart-fluttering and funny moments of the characters’ relationships. There are also scenes that especially highlight the charming directing and acting, such as the scene where deputy manager Gye Bin makes soju bombs at a team dinner with CEO Kang Tae-moo in episode 9.

Of course, viewers all know that Chairman Kang (Lee Deok-hwa) is not fond of Shin Ha-ri, so he will be against Kang Tae-moo and Shin Ha-ri‘s dating. However, the positive energy and optimistic atmosphere that is unique to “Business Proposal” builds confidence that his opposition will not turn into something serious that lets the viewers down. Chairman Kang may disapprove of their relationship at first, but it is certain that he will change his mind once he realizes that Shin Ha-ri and Shin Geum-hui, are actually the same person.

Business Proposal”, which is receiving explosive responses not only in Korea but also abroad to the extent that it is leading the TOP 10 in Netflix’s TV shows category, is believed to be an unexpected event in the drama industry. That’s because it’s neither a new story nor a drama with a deep message, but a light romantic comedy.

A Business Proposal

However, perhaps the fact that “Business Proposal” is a light romantic comedy is the reason why it made such a huge success. These days, when the dark and frustrating reality of the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is still happening, was this drama aimed at public viewers who just want to laugh comfortably. The biggest strength of “Business Proposal” is that this romantic comedy allows audiences to immerse themselves in the story for one hour without having to think much about the developments and twists.

Although many viewers raised doubts about the achievements Ahn Hyo-seop, Kim Se-jeong, Kim Min-kyu, and Seol In-ah could achieve through “Business Proposal”, looking back on the drama’s performance, it is becoming a work that gives them the best characters in their acting careers. Compared to Ahn Hyo-seop’s heavy role in “Lovers of the Red Sky”, Kim Se-jeong’s serious action acting in “The Uncanny Counter”, Kim Min-kyu’s South Korean spy character in “Snowdrop”, Seol In-ah’s appearance as an evil concubine in “Mr. Queen”, their appearances in “Business Proposal” is drawing much more attention.
