On January 6, Ahn Bo Hyun appeared as a guest on the YouTube web variety show Salon Drip, alongside actress Lee Joo Bin, to promote their new tvN drama Spring Fever. During the episode, host Jang Do Yeon brought up her past experience working with Ahn Bo Hyun as an MC at the 2020 MBC Entertainment Awards.
Ahn Bo Hyun responded humorously, calling it a memory he would rather forget. He then explained that his mistake during the live broadcast was caused by his poor eyesight and severe color vision deficiency.
“I can’t just rely on cue cards, so I have to look at the prompter,” he said. “But the text color for Jang Do Yeon’s lines looked almost identical to mine. I honestly panicked.”
The actor revealed that he requested changes to the font size and color during the break between the first and second parts of the ceremony. However, the adjustments did little to help, as the colors still appeared too similar to him.
“Maybe it sounds like an excuse, but I was so frustrated with myself that I went straight to get SMILE LASIK surgery afterward,” he added, drawing laughter from the studio.
Jang Do Yeon reassured him, saying that the award show had a festive atmosphere and that she remembered it fondly. Lee Joo Bin also chimed in, asking whether people around him had noticed his nervousness at the time.
Ahn Bo Hyun admitted that many acquaintances likely realized something was off, as he kept squinting throughout the event.
“I kept looking at the screen with half-closed eyes, so people who knew me probably figured it out,” he said. “After that, I decided I wouldn’t do MC work again except maybe hosting a wedding.”
His honest confession and self-deprecating humor quickly resonated with viewers, drawing positive reactions online.
Spring Fever is a romance drama adapted from a popular web novel. The story follows Yoon Bom (Lee Joo Bin), a teacher with an icy exterior shaped by harsh realities, and Sun Jae Gyu (Ahn Bo Hyun), a man with a fiery heart capable of melting even the coldest emotions. The drama premiered its first episode the day before, with episode two airing on the same day as the broadcast.
