After celebrities, government and public corporations were also attacked by hackers and information are leaked

The problem of hacking is becoming more and more serious in Korea.

Official YouTube channels of the government, including that of Korea Tourism Organization, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art have been hacked one after another for the past three days.

On September 3rd, Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that the YouTube channel “Government of the Republic of Korea” was hijacked by an external hacker at around 3:20 AM (KST) on the same day and was restored in about 4 hours. The hacked Korean government YouTube channel was renamed “SpaceX Invest” until it was restored, and live videos related to cryptocurrency, which featured Elon Musk, were published.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism found out about the hack at around 6 AM (KST) on the same day and restored the channel at around 7:20 AM (KST). In order to strengthen security measures, the police have been asked to investigate and the exact hacking route is being identified.

Prior to this, the YouTube channels of the Korea Tourism Organization and the National Museum of Contemporary Art were also hacked on September 1st. In particular, on the Korea Tourism Organization’s YouTube channel “Imagine your Korea”, there was a Korean promotional video with nearly 500 million cumulative views, but it is no longer accessible due to hacking attempts. Following this, The Korea Tourism Organization posted a request for understanding in English on its official SNS channel.

Another organization that suffered from hacking was the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. It is reported that a live video related to virtual currency appeared on this channel as well, but the channel was safely restored in about two hours.

Previously, hacking damages also draw serious attention in the entertainment industry as photos of a couple, believed to be BLACKPINK’s Jennie and BTS V, have been released one after another.
