At the 2025 MAMA Awards held on November 28 at the Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong, aespa received the seventh Fan’s Choice award, marking another major achievement for the global girl group.
Actor Park Bo Gum hosted Chapter 1 of the ceremony, while actor Park Hyung Sik appeared as the presenter for the category. Upon receiving the award, Karina expressed her gratitude toward fans and addressed the tragic Hong Kong Wong Fuk Court apartment fire, saying: “I sincerely pray that even the missing individuals may return safely to their families.”
Following her, Ningning, the group’s Chinese member, delivered her acceptance speech in Chinese, sending condolences to bereaved families. She added heartfelt words that drew significant attention:
“Thank you to MAMA. Thank you to all the fans who have supported us relentlessly. Receiving your recognition is the happiest moment. I will repay you with more good work. And lastly, I send my deepest condolences to those who were harmed in this fire accident, to their bereaved families, and to all firefighters. I hope all firefighters remain safe. And I pray that everything may be at peace for all of you. I hope for it. Thank you.”
On November 26, a devastating fire broke out at the high-rise Wong Fuk Court apartment complex in Tai Po, Hong Kong. According to reports released on the 28th by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, 128 people have been confirmed dead, with 39 identified and 89 bodies yet to be identified due to severe conditions.
In response to the tragedy, the MAMA Awards organizers who hosted the event in Hong Kong announced a large-scale donation to support victims. Several K-pop artists and entertainment agencies have also continued making contributions, reflecting the industry’s collective sympathy and support for those affected.
