Actress Dropped Out Of Middle School Because She Didn’t Want To Repeat A Year

Stories about the school days of Kim Ji-won, who recently became famous with “Queen of Tears”, are re-examined

Looking at Kim Ji-won, many people would think she must have been a model student during her school days. In fact, the actress dropped out when she was in middle school. 

Kim Ji-won dreamed of becoming a kindergarten teacher until she entered elementary school. Despite not liking being the center of attention, she enjoyed expressing herself and this led her to encounter acting for the first time through activities of a theater club in her elementary school.

While taking on numerous roles, even the smallest ones, Kim Ji-won also participated in a Christmas performance at a church when she was in middle school. In the first year of middle school, just as she became familiar with acting, Kim Ji-won spent nearly a year in Chicago, the US, and lived with her maternal relatives.

However, as Kim Ji-won returned to her middle school in Korea after coming back from the US, she found out that she would have to repeat an academic year. As a result, she decided to drop out of school and took the GED exam instead.

Around that time, Kim Ji-won got cast on the street and suddenly entered the entertainment industry. In order to prepare for her debut with various possibilities, including singing and acting, Kim Ji-won spent 3 years learning acting, choreography, and Japanese as well as receiving vocal training.

After passing GED, Kim Ji-won was qualified to continue her studies in high school. As such, she tried to participate in all the evening self-study sessions while balancing her time as a trainee. Later after her debut, Kim Ji-won entered the Department of Theater majoring in Acting at Dongguk University through the admission in 2011.

Since then, Kim Ji-won has gradually gained recognition for her acting skills by starring in various projects, such as “High Kick: Revenge of the Short Legged”, “The Heirs”, “Descendants of the Sun”, “Fight For My Way”, “Arthdal Chronicles”, “My Liberation Notes”, etc.

Recently Kim Ji-won became a global star after playing the role of Hong Hae-in in tvN’s hit drama “Queen of Tears”.

According to HighZium Studio on June 28th, Kim Ji-won will hold her first solo fanmeeting in Seoul on the 22nd and 23rd of June. After completing the Seoul fanmeeting, the actress will carry out her first Asian fanmeeting tour starting from Osaka, Japan on July 7th.
