Oh My Girl’s YooA announced that she is making a solo comeback after two years.
On October 20, Oh My Girl‘s agency WM Entertainment announced, “Oh My Girl’s YooA is preparing for a new solo album with the goal of making a comeback in November. Please look forward to YooA’s solo comeback.”
YooA made her solo debut by releasing her first mini album “Bon Voyage” in September 2020. At the time, YooA drew attention with an exotic fantasy-like solo concept.
In particular, YooA’s title track “Bon Voyage” (“Forest Child” in Korean) swept the top spots on major domestic music charts upon its release. YooA also won first place on weekly music shows. The MV, which was created from a fantasy worldview, also surpassed 10 million views in less than a week after it was released.
YooA was the first member of Oh My Girl to release a solo album. YooA’s visuals, vocal tone, and dance line are all known to perfectly suit the signature dreamlike concept of Oh My Girl.
YooA is known to have great skills in all aspects as an all-rounder among K-pop girl group members, but she had no talent for studying.
A netizen who claims she is a classmate from the same high school as YooA revealed that YooA quickly marked her answer card during an exam and slept for the rest of the time. In response, YooA revealed that she decided to change her career to dancing because she thought she had no talent for studying.
YooA explained that she studied very hard in middle school, so she entered a high school where only good students could attend, but even when she fell a little behind, her grades dropped, so she changed her career path.
A highschooler who lost interest in her studies then decided to become a choreographer. In an interview, when asked why she started dancing, YooA said, “My father loves singing and dancing so much, and my grandmother, aunt, and uncle all like it. My older brother and I both liked dancing more than singing.”
YooA continued her dance practice to become a choreographer and she ended up getting scouted to debut as an idol while her agency was looking for Oh My Girl’s main dancer. Thanks to that, she is known for her excellent dancing skills despite her little training period.
YooA’s older brother is professional dancer and choreographer Yoo Junsun. Yoo Junsun recently appeared on Mnet’s “Street Man Fighter” as a member of the dance crew YGX.
