A famous singer sentenced to prison for stalking a woman he got to know through an acquaintance

A singer has been sentenced to prison for committing stalking crimes repeatedly. 

The Incheon District Court (Judge Oh Han-seung) announced on June 7th that they sentenced trot singer A (40 years old) to 10 months in prison for violating the criminal law based on punishment for stalking crimes.

Here are the details of the incident.

On March 1st, A was arrested and indicted on charges of stalking B, a woman in her 30s living in Incheon whom A got to know through an acquaintance, as he kept knocking on the front door of B’s house and shaking the doorknob for about 30 minutes. 

On that day, A continuously pressed the bell placed on B’s front door and left a bouquet of flowers in front of B’s house. On the 5th of the same month, the court ordered him to “not approach B within 100 meters from her residence”, but A continued to visit B’s house twice.

The judge said, “The defendant wandered around the victim’s residence over and over again, giving her anxiety and fear”, adding, “Despite repeated warnings and restraints from police officers, as well as the court’s ban on the defendant’s access to the victim’s residence, the defendant continued to commit stalking crimes.”

Explaining the reason to give A a prison sentence, the judge said, “We considered the fact that the defendant committed the crime even after receiving criminal punishment several times in the past, including a probation.”
