A famous celebrity who is likely to be banned from using Instagram until death… 8 million followers will fly away
It is predicted that a famous Korean celebrity will not be able to use Instagram until he actually dies.
It is expected that the Instagram account that this celebrity used to cherish will be closed soon.
The Instagram account of former BIGBANG member Seungri (Lee Seung-hyun) is expected to disappear. On May 26th, his sexual offense charges were finally confirmed by the Supreme Court. Legally, he became a so-called “sex offender”.
The Supreme Court’s first division confirmed on May 26th that Seungri, who was indicted on charges of habitual gambling, sexual violence crimes (prostitution, prostitution mediation, using camera, etc. to record)…, would be sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison like the second trial’s ruling.
From December 2015 to January of the following year, Seungri was indicted for arranging prostitution several times to investors from Taiwan, Japan and Hong Kong to attract investment for clubs and financial investment businesses. He was also charged with purchasing sex by himself.
According to Instagram’s policy, in the case of convicted sex offenders, when netizens’ report is received, the account will be closed after checking whether they will be punished.
Regarding this, JoyNews24 reported on the same day, “In accordance with Seungri’s Supreme Court ruling, netizens are continuing to report to Instagram in order to close Seungri’s account.”
As of May 26th, Seungri’s Instagram account is accessible. Along with photos and videos uploaded in the past, the “last post” that announced his retirement from the entertainment industry in March 2019 remains the same. He has over 8 million followers. Seungri showed a special affection for Instagram as he uploaded more than 1,600 posts.
However, if Instagram confirms Seungri’s conviction for sex crimes, his account is expected to be closed soon. In other words, it is only a matter of time before the closure.
The Instagram account of singer Go Young-wook, who was sentenced to prison for sexually assaulting minors, was also closed after he was found guilty.
Seungri was originally scheduled to be discharged from the military in September last year after the first trial. However, since he was suspended from discharge according to the Military Service Act, he was tried by a higher court as a soldier.
As the Supreme Court confirmed the punishment on May 26th, Seungri, who is still imprisoned in a military prison, will be transferred to a private prison after being incorporated into a wartime labor force. Seungri’s sentence is until February next year.
