Actor Lee Do-hyun has officially been cast in the upcoming historical action film Nambeol, marking his first movie project since completing his mandatory military service. The rising star joins an impressive cast that already includes Lee Byung-hun and Go Youn-jung, while reuniting with filmmaker Lee Mo-gae, the cinematographer behind the blockbuster Exhuma.
Nambeol is a hard-boiled martial arts action film set during the early Joseon Dynasty. The story follows nine warriors of different backgrounds and social classes who travel to Tsushima Island on a dangerous mission to rescue captives abducted by Japanese pirates.
Lee Do-hyun will portray Bo-gyeong, a skilled swordsman who leads the assault against enemy forces. The character is known for his fearless fighting style while also displaying deep loyalty and camaraderie toward his fellow warriors.
In the film, Bo-gyeong serves as the loyal right-hand man to Im Eok, the leader of the warrior group, played by Lee Byung-hun. The movie will mark the first on-screen collaboration between Lee Do-hyun and the veteran actor, making their dynamic one of the production’s most anticipated elements.
Nambeol also reunites Lee Do-hyun with Lee Mo-gae, who served as cinematographer on the box office hit Exhuma before making his feature directorial debut with this project. Having built a successful working relationship during Exhuma, audiences are eager to see the creative synergy between the actor and director continue in a completely different genre.

In Nambeol, he is expected to showcase a more rugged and physically demanding performance by transforming into a fierce Joseon-era warrior.
Nambeol marks the feature directorial debut of Lee Mo-gae, whose cinematography credits include major Korean films such as: 12.12: The Da, Exhuma, Hunt, Yadang: The Snitch, Emergency Declaration. The film is being produced by Hive Media Corp, the studio behind acclaimed titles including: 12.12: The Day, Harbin, The Man Standing Next, Inside Men. Production is currently in pre-production, with filming scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
