Two South Korean teenagers have been indicted after allegedly drugging their father with sleeping pills, accessing his mobile banking while he was unconscious, and fraudulently obtaining loans worth approximately 40 million won (around $30,000 USD).
According to legal authorities, the siblings allegedly carried out the crime with the help of the older sister’s teenage boyfriend before spending the money on gold and personal expenses.
On July 14, legal sources revealed that the Ulsan District Prosecutors’ Office indicted a teenage girl, identified only as A, and her boyfriend, B, without detention on charges including robbery and computer fraud.

A’s younger brother was also referred to the juvenile division of the court on similar charges. Prosecutors allege that in 2024, the trio crushed prescription sleeping pills obtained from a hospital and mixed the powder into the father’s coffee. After he lost consciousness, they allegedly unlocked his mobile phone and used it to apply for bank loans totaling more than 30 million won.
Investigators say the suspects eventually withdrew approximately 40 million won from the victim’s accounts. The money was allegedly used to purchase gold, which they later resold for cash. Prosecutors believe the proceeds were then spent on personal expenses, including skincare treatments and other individual purchases.
The case came to light after the father regained consciousness and realized both of his children had disappeared from home. Concerned, he filed a missing persons report, prompting police to locate the siblings and the boyfriend the following day.
During the initial police investigation, only the boyfriend was charged with computer fraud related to obtaining the loans through the father’s mobile phone. At the time, the boyfriend claimed that A had been responsible for giving the sleeping pills to her father. However, A denied participating in the crime, while her younger brother also insisted that his sister had not been involved. Police concluded the investigation without conducting additional inquiries.
However, prosecutors reopened the case in November 2025 through a supplementary investigation.
According to prosecutors, a joint interrogation involving all three suspects produced a different account. The siblings reportedly admitted that they had crushed prescription sleeping pills into powder, mixed them into their father’s coffee, and gave him the drink before carrying out the financial fraud.
Based on the new evidence, prosecutors concluded that rendering the father unconscious before accessing his mobile phone and securing loans constituted robbery, leading to the formal indictment of A and her boyfriend. The younger brother, being a minor, was referred to the juvenile court for further proceedings.
