Taiwanese singer-songwriter Leehom Wang suffered a frightening accident during a concert in China after falling from the stage during his opening performance. Despite sustaining serious injuries that required 39 stitches, the singer chose to continue the show before seeking emergency medical treatment.
The accident occurred on July 4 (local time) during Leehom Wang’s solo concert in Chengdu, China. While performing the opening stage, the singer reportedly tripped over a safety wire installed on the stage floor, causing him to lose his balance and fall. He struck the left side of his face against the sharp edge of a metal stage staircase, and the impact was so severe that his in-ear monitor was knocked out.

Following the fall, blood could be seen flowing from the left side of Leehom Wang’s face and ear. Rather than immediately ending the performance, he received basic first aid backstage before returning to the stage to finish the concert, honoring his commitment to fans. After the show concluded, he was rushed to a hospital emergency room for treatment.
The singer later updated fans through his official account, revealing the extent of his injuries. According to Leehom Wang, the impact occurred directly on the left ear where he had been wearing a hard in-ear monitor. “When I fell, my left ear where I was wearing the in-ear monitor hit the edge of the stage, causing the cartilage in my external ear canal to rupture.”
Doctors performed emergency surgery, stitching:
- 27 stitches to his ear
- 12 stitches to facial injuries

A total of 39 stitches were required. Fortunately, comprehensive examinations confirmed that he did not suffer any injuries to his brain or skull.
Wang reassured fans by saying: “The cartilage tear caused a lot of bleeding on stage, so I know many of you must have been worried. I’m receiving proper treatment now and I’m doing okay.” He added that he considered himself fortunate to have escaped a much more serious outcome.
Leehom Wang’s agency also released an official statement addressing the accident. Following an internal investigation, the company concluded that the incident was caused by improper handling of the stage wire equipment, which caused the artist to lose his balance while descending.

The agency acknowledged responsibility on the part of the stage production team and announced that those involved are currently under internal investigation. It also pledged to strengthen safety protocols and improve on-site stage management to prevent similar accidents in the future.
News of Leehom Wang’s accident quickly spread online, with fans expressing concern after videos and photos from the concert circulated on social media. Many praised the veteran performer for completing the concert despite his injuries, while others emphasized that artist safety should always take priority over finishing a performance.
Thankfully, medical examinations confirmed that the injuries were limited to his face and ear, and the singer is expected to focus on recovery following the frightening incident.
