Zhou Jie was once one of the most recognizable Chinese television actors of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Today, however, he is better known for the successful agricultural business he built after leaving the entertainment industry.
Born in 1970, Zhou Jie graduated from the Shanghai Theatre Academy and rose to fame in 1998 through his role as Fu Erkang in My Fair Princess . His serious image and romantic performance made him popular across Asia.

He later strengthened his reputation by playing the young Bao Zheng in the 2000 costume mystery drama Young Justice Bao . The role remains one of the most memorable portrayals of the legendary official’s younger years and helped establish Zhou Jie as a leading actor.
Career Decline After Controversies

At the height of his fame, Zhou Jie became involved in several controversies and allegations related to his behavior. Reports linked him to disputes with co-stars, a traffic accident, gambling, and physical conflicts.
Although some claims remained disputed, the repeated negative coverage damaged his public image and gradually reduced his opportunities in the entertainment industry. Zhou Jie eventually decided to step away from showbiz. Reflecting on that period, he once said: “When people become trapped in a dead end, they make emotional choices without knowing whether they are right or wrong. At that time, I did not know how to face everyone, so I chose the most foolish path, but it gave me comfort and peace.”
Building an Agricultural Empire

In 2015, Zhou Jie reportedly returned to northeastern China and began investing in agriculture. According to Chinese media reports, he quickly expanded his business by identifying opportunities in the farming market. His reported assets later surpassed 100 million yuan.
The former actor is said to own approximately 1,000 mu of farmland, five companies and a winery. Some reports also claim that he owns valuable properties in Europe. Despite his wealth, Zhou Jie reportedly lives a relatively simple and private life. He occasionally shares updates about farming, growing rice, exercising, meditation and maintaining his health.

For him, agriculture is not only a source of income but also part of his pursuit of a calmer and more balanced lifestyle. Zhou Jie briefly returned to the stage in 2020 through a National Theatre production, attracting attention from longtime fans. However, he later clarified that he had no plans to make a full comeback to the entertainment industry.
Now 56, Zhou Jie remains unmarried and keeps his personal life away from the public. His journey from television star to agricultural businessman has become one of the most unusual career transformations in Chinese entertainment.
