Actress and model Kim Jin Kyung has reportedly restricted comments on her social media accounts after becoming the target of malicious messages related to her husband Kim Seung Gyu’s performance at the 2026 World Cup.

South Korea suffered a 1-0 defeat to host nation Mexico in its second match of the tournament. The only goal came after goalkeeper Kim Seung Gyu failed to secure the ball, allowing Luis Romo to take advantage and score.

Following the match, Kim Seung Gyu faced intense criticism online. However, some users also visited his wife’s social media pages and left hostile comments despite her having no involvement in the game.

Even a video documenting Kim Jin Kyung’s recent childbirth reportedly became filled with criticism directed at the goalkeeper. She has since limited who can post comments on her YouTube channel and social media accounts. Visitors now reportedly see notices stating that only subscribers can comment or that comments have been restricted.

The couple married in June 2024 and recently became parents to their first daughter while Kim Seung Gyu was away preparing for the World Cup with the South Korean national team. Because he could not be present for the birth, the FC Tokyo goalkeeper initially saw his daughter only through photographs and video calls.

He reportedly saw her open her eyes for the first time during a call with his wife shortly before South Korea’s opening match against the Czech Republic. Kim Seung Gyu previously said that seeing his daughter gave him additional strength ahead of the tournament.

During a press conference, he also apologized to his wife for being absent during childbirth and promised to make up for it by delivering strong performances for the national team.
