On June 18, a video titled “I’m Putting a Comma in My 7-Year YouTube Journey | Off Dex with 95z” was uploaded to his YouTube channel, Dex101. In the video, Dex sat down with fellow creator Mimiminu and chef Kwon Sung-jun to discuss his future plans.
During the conversation, Dex revealed that the channel would be taking a temporary break. “I wouldn’t call this the final video of the channel, but we’ll be resting for a while. Internally, the decision has already been made.”
Dex emphasized that the hiatus should not be viewed as a permanent farewell. “Rather than ending things alone, I wanted to spend this moment with friends. I’m not saying I’ll never do it again. It’s just a short break.” He described the video as a “comma” in his journey rather than a conclusion, reassuring viewers that he has not abandoned content creation altogether.
Reflecting on his career, Dex explained that he began his YouTube journey immediately after completing his military service in 2020 and has now been active for six years. Although he admitted that stepping away is disappointing, he said several factors influenced his decision. “There are various reasons for taking a break. Some are personal, and some are related to my condition.”
According to Dex, the decision was made because he believes a period of rest is necessary if he wants to return with better content and a stronger version of himself. “It may feel sudden to people, but I thought taking a step back was the right choice.”
The former reality star admitted that this will be the longest break he has taken since launching his online career. “I’m scared because I’ve never taken such a long break before.” He then delivered the news many fans feared: “One thing I’m sure about is that I probably won’t be returning this year.” The statement suggests that viewers may not see new content from Dex101 until sometime in 2027.
Dex also revealed that the hiatus is tied to broader concerns about his professional identity. “This is an industry where people can forget you after just one or two months away, so this was a major decision.” Despite the risks, he said the choice felt surprisingly clear. “I didn’t spend a long time thinking about it. I was convinced this was what I needed to do.” The broadcaster explained that he no longer wants to create content simply to keep up with constant demands. “I want to enjoy what I do. I don’t want to feel like I’m constantly chasing something.”
Perhaps the most revealing part of his announcement came when Dex discussed feeling uncertain about where he currently stands within the entertainment industry. “When I objectively look at myself, I feel my position is somewhat ambiguous.” He explained that he has been active across multiple fields including television, variety shows, online content, and entertainment appearances which has made it difficult to identify a single area where he can focus his strengths. “I have one foot in several different categories. I felt that this year was the right time to decide where I should concentrate my efforts.”
Rather than taking a break with a specific new project already planned, Dex said he intends to use the time to reflect on his future and determine where he can make the greatest impact.
Dex has built a strong following through both traditional broadcasting and digital content, earning popularity for his candid personality and versatility. While fans were saddened by the announcement, many have expressed support for his decision to prioritize his well-being and long-term career goals.
