The harsh beauty standards of the K-pop industry are once again under scrutiny after Seeun candidly revealed the extreme dieting methods she previously used to maintain her weight as an idol.
The STAYC member recently shared that she once starved herself throughout the week just to achieve a lower number during regular weigh-ins held every Saturday. According to Seeun, after restricting herself for days, she would finally allow herself to eat freely on Sundays — only to repeat the same cycle again the following week.

Her confession quickly sparked widespread discussion online, with many fans expressing concern over the unhealthy pressure female idols face regarding body image.
Seeun explained that the strict dieting routine ultimately backfired. After prolonged starvation, her body craved food intensely, causing her to overeat during her “cheat day.” The result was a repetitive cycle of losing and regaining weight — a phenomenon commonly referred to as the “yo-yo effect.”
Many fans noted that despite the exhausting routine, Seeun already appeared extremely slim, making the pressure she experienced even more alarming.
The discussion has also reignited criticism toward long-standing beauty standards in K-pop, where female idols are frequently expected to maintain exceptionally thin physiques regardless of potential health consequences. In recent years, multiple idols have spoken openly about dangerous dieting methods used during training and promotions.
Fans were reminded of previous revelations from stars like Momo and IU, both of whom previously shared shocking stories about restrictive eating habits. Momo once revealed she survived mainly on ice water during one intense diet period, while IU famously described a meal plan consisting of a single apple for breakfast.

Although K-pop’s visual expectations remain deeply embedded in the industry, public attitudes have gradually begun to shift. More fans are openly criticizing extreme dieting culture and emphasizing the importance of artists’ physical and mental well-being over unrealistic body standards.
Seeun’s honesty was widely praised for exposing the hidden struggles many idols face behind carefully curated stage appearances. Supporters also expressed hope that younger artists will no longer feel forced into dangerous eating habits simply to meet industry expectations.

Born in 2003, Seeun has become one of STAYC’s standout members thanks to her soft visuals, youthful charm, and growing popularity among fans. While her current figure continues to draw attention online, many supporters now hope the singer prioritizes her health over maintaining extreme weight goals.
