Chinese actress Bai Lu has become the center of heated online debate after her recent appearance on the variety show Keep Running sparked criticism across Chinese social media platforms.
According to reports from Sina, some viewers accused Bai Lu of being “disrespectful” toward senior cast members including Sha Yi and Li Chen during recent episodes of the hit program. Critics claimed the actress frequently interrupted others, made awkward remarks, and displayed rude reactions throughout the games. However, many fans argue the controversy escalated due to selectively edited clips and screenshots taken out of context.

One particular scene generated intense discussion online after clips circulated showing Bai Lu splashing water onto Li Chen’s face during a challenge segment. The footage quickly spread across Weibo alongside accusations that the actress had crossed the line for the sake of entertainment.
But after the full segment aired, many viewers noticed Bai Lu herself had also been repeatedly splashed by other cast members as part of the game rules. A related topic translating to “Bai Lu was splashed too” reportedly surpassed 90 million views online as public opinion began shifting in her favor.
Fans argued that the viral clips deliberately removed surrounding context to portray the actress negatively. Supporters also pointed out that Keep Running has long relied on exaggerated reactions, playful teasing, and chaotic games to create humor among cast members.

Several comments defending Bai Lu gained traction online:
- “Everyone was splashing water at each other, so why only target Bai Lu?”
- “She’s also been pushed into mud and embarrassed on the show before, but she never complained.”
- “This is just a variety show game. People are twisting the situation to attack her.”
According to fan communities, Bai Lu was mentioned in 24 separate hot search topics over the past week alone, with eight criticism-related hashtags appearing within a single 24-hour period on Weibo’s trending rankings. Many supporters accused anti-fans of intentionally manipulating public opinion to damage the actress’s reputation.

The controversy eventually prompted a response from producer and screenwriter Yu Zheng, who manages Bai Lu under his entertainment company.
Yu Zheng addressed the online attacks by writing:
“Trying to explain ourselves only gives bad people more attention and motivation. We believe in the power of silence. For baseless rumors, we choose legal action. For hurtful comments, we choose to smile and move on.”
Bai Lu, born in 1994, rose to fame through popular Chinese dramas including The Legends, Arsenal Military Academy, One and Only, Till the End of the Moon, and Story of Kunning Palace. Despite the recent backlash, she remains one of the most commercially successful actresses among China’s younger television stars.
