On April 6, Mark sent a message through the fan communication platform Bubble, saying, “I really wanted to speak first in person, but it wasn’t something I could decide on my own… You must have been very surprised, right?”

He continued, “It must have been a hectic and difficult weekend, and now it’s already Monday. We have to stay strong…” adding, “I’ll come back soon. I’m sorry and thank you. Let’s get through Monday together,” expressing his affection toward fans.

On the same day, the Bubble service provider Lysn announced that Mark’s Bubble service would officially end at 10 a.m. on April 20.

The message gained attention as it marked Mark’s first direct communication with fans following his departure from NCT. While he had previously shared a handwritten letter on social media, Bubble being a paid platform mainly used by dedicated fans carried greater emotional weight.

However, reactions to his message have been notably cold among some fans.

Criticism poured in, with comments such as “It would’ve been better if he hadn’t sent anything,” “He should know the fandom mood this feels tone-deaf,” “Was this just to make himself feel better?” “It doesn’t feel sincere,” and “As a long-time fan, I feel disappointed. This isn’t what fans were waiting for.”

Previously, Mark had been seen looking somber during a recent NCT Dream concert, even shedding tears alongside members, which raised concerns among fans. Speculation followed until his departure was officially confirmed.

Many believe the lukewarm response stems from fans expecting a more honest and detailed message one that included a direct apology and a clearer request for support moving forward. Critics argue that his Bubble message failed to fully convey that level of sincerity.

On the other hand, some fans defended him, saying, “He already said everything in his handwritten letter,” “He would’ve been criticized no matter what,” “What’s the problem?” and “It seems like he kept it short because he was being careful.”

News of Mark’s contract termination with SM Entertainment and his exit from NCT was announced on April 3.

SM Entertainment stated, “We have mutually agreed to conclude our exclusive contract with Mark as of April 8,” confirming the end of his activities with all NCT units, including NCT 127 and NCT Dream.

In his earlier handwritten letter, Mark shared, “I had many conversations with the members about this decision, and every single one of them supported me. I’m so grateful it brings me to tears, and I feel sorry for life. Thank you and I love the members who shared this journey with me.”
