After much anticipation, the Korean drama Climax has finally premiered. Despite boasting a star-studded cast including Joo Ji Hoon, Ha Ji Won, Nana, and Cha Joo Young, the first episode recorded a modest rating of just 2.7%. Still, early numbers don’t seem to fully reflect the drama’s gripping potential.

From the very first episode, Climax establishes itself as a dark, ambitious thriller centered on political power, elite society, and calculated relationships. At the heart of the story is Tae Seop, played by Joo Ji Hoon—a prosecutor from a humble background driven by relentless ambition—and his wife Sang Ah, portrayed by Ha Ji Won, a once-famous actress whose career collapsed after a tax evasion scandal.

Their lives become entangled with Yang Mi (Cha Joo Young), a mysterious figure operating behind the scenes of powerful deals connecting politics and the entertainment industry. As Tae Seop secretly gathers evidence to take her down and advance his own agenda, Sang Ah is drawn into the same dangerous web with the promise of a comeback—only to realize the hidden cost behind that opportunity.
The episode closes on a tense note, hinting at a much deeper and more dangerous power struggle yet to unfold.

While ratings may seem underwhelming, online reactions tell a different story. Viewers have praised the drama’s heavy atmosphere, tight pacing, and especially the performances. Joo Ji Hoon, in particular, has become the highlight of the premiere. His portrayal of Tae Seop blends charisma with an unsettling edge—most notably in a viral scene where he whistles during a sting operation, exuding both charm and a sly, almost sinister aura.
Meanwhile, Ha Ji Won also leaves a strong impression with her layered performance. Her character Sang Ah is both ambitious and calculating, and even in the first episode, she delivers bold and memorable moments that hint at more explosive developments ahead.

Audience comments have been largely positive, with many noting the drama’s intensity and mature storytelling. Some even pointed out that Climax is “not for the faint-hearted” and requires full attention rather than casual viewing.
Although the 2.7% rating falls short of expectations for such a high-profile project, the combination of a gripping thriller narrative and a powerhouse cast gives Climax strong potential to gain momentum in upcoming episodes. For now, it’s a slow start—but one that could quickly build into something much bigger.
